Descendants of the Australian South Sea Islanders Association Inc. were negotiating with the Maroochy Shire Council ( as it was then known) in 1997 to lease this land known as Lot 962 on Crown Plan C311024 located at David Low Way, Bli Bli.
This land is culturally significant to the Australian South Sea Islander Community, as this site was home to many families during the early part of the 20th Century.
This being the case, it was hoped one day, to construct a Cultural and Interpretive Centre on this site to be used as an educational/interactive learning place for all.
It is registered with the Dept of Natural Resources and Mines, Queensland which it is noted as:
Purpose: RECREATION
Local Name: MARINA GARDENS, CANAL ESTATE
Address: BLI BLI
County (R) No: R71 Canning, Parish of Maroochy
Local Government: Sunshine Coast
TRUSTEES: Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
At present there is a 30 year lease with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council:
Commencement date: 02/06/2015 Expiry date: 01/06/2045.
